Municipality of Kollumerland c.a.
Fryslân has a population of around 640.000 distributed over 31 municipalities.
The municipality of Kollumerland c.a. is one of them. The municipality has a surface of 11.635 hectares and counts just over 13.000 inhabitants, living in twelve villages. The main place is Kollum, a village with around 5.700 inhabitants. The other villages are: Augsbuurt, Burum, Kollumerpomp, Kollumerzwaag, Munnekezijl, Oudwoude, Triemen, Veenklooster, Warfstermolen, Westergeest and Zwagerbosch. 
Kollumerland c.a. lies in the northern part of Fryslân. Officialy the name of the municipality is “Kollumerland en Nieuwkruisland”. The shorter name is: Kollumerland c.a. C.a. means “cum annexis”, this is in Latin and means “with annex”.

Landscape
In Kollumerland c.a. you find several landscapes. In the southpart we have the friendly “Frisian-woudstreek”. Characteristic feature of this area is the hedged and wooded banks enclosing each field. It ’s a rich landschape of woods with a high level of pleistocene sand grounds, which have arisen outside the direct influence of the sea.
Kollumerland c.a. has plenty of rest, spaciousness, clean air and nature on offer.

The Lauwer Lake area is a beautiful nature area suitable for fishing, bird watching, walking, cycling and waters ports. The area covers about 9,000 hectare. The Lauwer Lake area came into existence when the Lauwer Sea was closed off in 1969. Over the years the salt has slowly disappeared from the water and a beautiful countryside has emerged.

We speak English
So language need never be a barrier. Many of the inhabitants and businesses within the municipality of Kollumerland c.a. can be addressed in English.

Ruling system
Kollumerland c.a. is ruled by 15 councillors, men as well as women. They are elected  every four year by our inhabitants. The daily administration lays in the hands of the municipal executive, the mayor and three elderman. 
The mayor is appointed by the Queen for six years, which can be followed by another period of six years. Apart from the coordination and the management of the governing process, the duties of the mayor can be found in the field of safety, such as the policeforces and the fire-brigade. The mayor in Kollumerland c.a. is mr. Bearn Bilker. The eldermen are: mr. Reinoud Koster, mr. Rik Schaafstal en mr. Hilbrand Visser.
